Han “Kool Kat” Phat
Pangxiong of the Infinite Inn

Suren of the Tu Shen
Advisor of the Court of Emerald Eyes
Nyan of the Dance of the Smoldering Incense

Description

Hotei: ~Han Phat is a man of the hour. Street-stylishly classy, he typically sports vibrant red silk shirts, black leather slacks, suede shoes, and fur coats all of the more expensive name brands and qualities. His average-length hair is styled in whatever avant-garde, magazine model fashion strikes his fancy. Sometimes his slanted, gold-flecked brown eyes are hidden behind slit-lens sunglasses. Gold, kanji-inscribed rings adorn both hands, and one gold ball bearing pierces his left earlobe. The faint scent of cologne rises up close. His smooth face often bears an amiable expression. Han appears to be in his mid to late 20s with a slender and agile build. He carries himself with a sense of carefree responsibility only the wealthy typically enjoy.~

OOC: Appearance 3; Style 2; Rank 12; Fame 1, Pakua 2; Enchanting Voice

Wani: ~When stirred to take his true Nyan form, Han gains no build but nevertheless changes dramatically. His skin grows a fine layer of velvety, tan fur. His face and head become unmistakably feline in nature and expression. The eyes become slit, blue cat eyes. His hair is replaced by fur, its color a dark, dark brown here. His arms and legs -– now ending in paws –- are likewise much darker than the rest of his body. So, too, is the kinked, slender tail that extends behind, occasionally lashing in feline whim. He possesses more physically confident and smooth mobility due his kin and his speech is sometimes lisped through the keen, carnivorous teeth. When pressed to take the Mask of Shintai, Han’s fur stands on end, razor claws flex dangerously, and he hisses and spits as if on the edge of feral feline frenzy. Cornering the cat is uncool indeed.~

Animal: ~A beautiful thoroughbred Siamese strolls lazily along his street. A seal-point, the cat’s coloration is a light tan enriched by a deep, earthy brown. Intent, blue eyes reflect the sky in all its glorious and mysterious heights. His high-flying tail is kinked in the traditional Siamese breeding, saluting those he deems to grace with his passage.~

"Life isn’t easy. When you wake up every morning and look in the mirror and simply ADORE what you see, it’s hard to live that down the rest of the day. Humility is not for the weak, I can tell you!”

History

Youth

Han Phat was preordained from birth to inherit the family business. His father, Lo Phat, was a clever and successful entrepreneur in the field of adult entertainment. Weaving through anti-prostitution laws, Lo Phat created a business that legally made adult films. Clients were invited to “try out” for parts in pornographic films. The “actors” (the johns) and actresses (prostitutes in Phat’s employ) gave up a small measure of privacy to stay legitimate. Of course, Phat promised, the films were never actually used or even viewed, simply kept on store as an “alibi” (or potential blackmail). Phat lied, of course; some of the footage were turned into low-key porno-flicks, and others he kept in his own perverse library. His “studio” remained a favorite nightspot in Hong Kong for many years.

However, his health caught up with him and cancer promised death. His son - a bastard child with one of his many “working” mistresses - was raised as normally as possible. But Lo Phat always made it clear that he wanted Han to take over the business. Han went through Catholic school and even sang in choir, but scarcely believed anything the priests or scripture tried to teach. Han developed a cynical perspective on life that not even his enjoyment of music (he was quite a tenor) could diffuse. Perversity on one side, hypocrisy (in his mind) on the other, Han wanted nothing to do with sinners or saints and made it clear to his father despite (or in reaction to) the cancer-ridden man’s growing insistence. Han sought an escape. An associate of his father offered it with drugs. Heroin became an almost daily routine for the teenager. Age 17 brought the almost inevitable consequence of heavy drug use. An overdosed boy was hauled to the emergency room.

Kun Shou & Tutelage

It seemed quite hopeless, yet Han Phat was to make an incredible recovery. A Nyan’s soul had just finished its search for a new life after his last was gunned down by vengeful tong. Knowing of the Phat legacy and seeing great potential, the Nyan breathed life back into Han Phat as his human soul fled its moorings. The Cat became Han Phat and was soon hugging his rapidly ailing father and promising to take over the family business… Over the next couple years while his father taught him what he knew, soon from the sick bed’s side, Han Phat worked on developing his forgotten powers and arts. He did his best to outlive his human forebear’s hanging drug addiction. The heroin addiction was voided, but occasional flashbacks still haunt Han. Armed with the knowledge, the inheritance, potent Shinma magic, and feline savvy, Han Phat set out to begin. Lo Phat passed later that year, 1995.

Early Years

Han knew his father wanted him to stay in Hong Kong at all costs. But the Nyan did not want to deal with the Communist crush destined to hit in less than five years. He spent the next couple years readying the business for a move, not building it further. He kept some of his father’s practices. However, Han cleaned up the act a bit, too. He let his employees be completely free, leaving or staying as they willed - but offering good compensation to convince them to stay. He kept none of the films for himself, and sold them instead to online pornographic services that rarely even publicize credits. Han also re-established his place in the Tu Shen and prepared to bid old friends farewell. However, as the clean-up of the brothel went on, an attic of old costumes, toys, and furniture was discovered. He first thought to have it all just thrown away, but decided to take a peek through it first. And lucky he did. Hidden among the trash was a curious little treasure, its magic evident only to the shen. A wooden mask, painted white with colorful markings, was the sort worn in antiquity by courtesans during dance ceremonies. Intrigued, Han put it on…and became a woman.

Thus was born Hana Lee. Han found he could return to his original gender at will by simply removing the mask and channeling his yugen through his frame. But the Courtesan’s Mask provided a whole new world of opportunity. First among them was the fulfillment of a secret wish the Nyan (or was it the wish of the original Han Phat and his human mind?) always nursed - singing professionally. Hana Lee was the identity adopted, and she became one of the most famous blues/pop singers in Hong Kong. She sang at many clubs throughout the city, enjoying the life of the entertainer far more than that of the entrepreneur. On June 30th of 1997 (yes, he waited to the last minute), however, all that had to end. Han Phat packed up what was left and moved to America, and Hana Lee mysteriously vanished with him. Damn Commies.

Han had considered his options. He learned that California’s various Chinatowns were overrun with the violence of the undead. East Coast’s Chinatowns weren’t reputed to be much better. And besides, Han wanted something fresh. Research revealed the growing prosperity of Kansas City’s Little Asia. Intrigued by the diversity the name alone promised, he shifted his resources there. An old, run-down motel was purchased and renovations began as early as 1996. One by one, his girls moved. Most of the old films were destroyed or sold off, and the newly named adult film studio, Kool Kat Productions, became an (albeit small) American corporation. The Kat himself soon arrived to Kansas City and helped set up shop. The business was not actually opened until Han had to satisfaction paved relations with the local underworld and ascertained the locations and tendencies of the local supernaturals.

The Nyan was content to remain in the background for years. Hana Lee was reborn, and toured the entire city on a regular basis. Han was pleased. Things were going well. His girls enjoyed their life, as all were there of their own free will. He occasionally, furtively, opposed other prostitution “businesses” suspected of or known to deal in slave rings. And little could bring forth the cat’s wrath like child pornography. It mattered little to Han if shen or mortals were behind such organizations. A fearsome avenger a hsien can be when his sorceries are unfettered by snooty, hidebound traditionalist Shinma like the Li Shen. Many pedophiles in Little Asia have been found as little more than charred husks, victims of a Cat’s anger.

Recent Years

Yet of recent he often sits back and does nothing when he learns of such enterprises. Han became aware of a new organization of shen in Little Asia. A hodge-podge conglomerate of chi’n ta, hengeyokai, and fellow hsien, he let the would-be heroes do the work. Han continued to take care of his employees and business, Hana continued to sing, and there was little need to do more. But the Tu Shen contacted him in early 2002. It was time, they said, to take up his Heavenly duties. His fellow Shinma needed him (whether they would admit it or not), and his counsel. Han was amused; he did not find himself to be wise. But the elders of the Tu Shen were not to be trifled with even if they were usually outgoing. Grudgingly, Han Phat looked into this Court of Infinite Ages.

And the Nyan found it more to his liking than he first suspected. He was expecting little more than a slew of self-righteous crime-fighters. He discovered diversity within diversity and beneath the birth pangs of a concept til now untried, a hope unmatched. Intrigued, he approached its Elders and became a part of the Court. An attentive Agent of Culture, Han does little more than what he always used to do anyway. Little more is expected of him, so said the Elders, and he is still able to keep his double-led life a secret from most. His task was to honor the Court’s laws and in his Ministry do his part by protecting Little Asia’s culture from being overrun by immorality. In other words, keep a cap on the bottle of prostitution and pornography. The Elders were realists. They knew prostitution could not be done away with. If it cannot be destroyed, it is best controlled, and Han Phat is the Court’s best bet for controller.

When Han's Court of Infinite Ages became the Court of Emerald Eyes, nothing changed besides his title. He still pursues the same goals, reassuring the Yu in charge of the Court that he's actually helping the community. That's what statistical facts are for at least! Now Han Phat is known to the shen as well as he is known to mortals, and the nickname “Kool Kat” is starting to resound in the halls of eternity…much to the chagrin of the Nyan’s discretion.

Weakness
Fat Cat

Han is quite bluntly lazy. He rivals Heng Po in his lackadaisical approach to life. The Nyan does his best to get other people to take care of whatever problem stands between he and his latest...interest. He looks for a "savior" till the last minute. Consequently, when he cannot find anyone, he has to do it himself...with last minute preparations at best.

Likelihood of Corruption

Average.

Han may be a sex fiend, but he has a good heart. He's no more or less vulnerable to corruption than any Nyan. Though Han is cautious with whom he deals with, a would-be corrupter has the best chance of taking him through the prostitution and pornography.
